Natives resist illegal settlement (Indiana)
Tenskwatawa orders a pre-dawn attack on the U.S. military force encamped close to Prophetstown, which starts the Battle of Tippecanoe in Battle Ground, Indiana. American forces are led by Governor William Henry Harrison of the Indiana Territory, and Indian forces are associated with Shawnee leaders Tecumseh and Tenskwatawa. After the battle, Harrison burns Prophetstown to the ground, a setback for Tecumseh, setting the stage for a British alliance with Indian tribes against the U.S. in the War of 1812. Tecumseh rebuilds Prophetstown (Nies, 1996).
